In 2005 Kenya Ports Authority procured 4 new Ship to Shore Gantry Cranes capable of stacking containers four high.
H Young & Co (EA) Ltd, in a joint venture with Bauer-Midroc, undertook civil and structural works including removal of existing concrete upper deck, construction of 230 No. piles (each 18m deep) and 180m long structural beam on which the cranes would runon. Other works included repairs to berth 16 & 18.
